From July 7th to July 16th, the 26th Macau Book Market Carnival was held at the Macau Polytechnic University Gymnasium. Xue Mo’s works made their debut at this year’s book market. During this period, the Xue Mo Culture Network donated twenty Xue Mo works, including the “Desert Trilogy” (“Desert Rites”, “Desert Hunters”, and “White Tiger Pass”), to the library of Macau Polytechnic University for use in the collection and academic research of the university library.

The Macau Polytechnic University is located on the Macau Peninsula and is a multidisciplinary and applied higher education institution. The motto of this higher education institution is’ General expertise and proficiency, integration between China and the West ‘. In addition to the “Desert Trilogy“, “Hometown Trilogy” (“Wild Fox Ridge”, “The Sound of Broadbeans Late at Night”, “One Man’s West”), and representative works such as “Selected Stories By Xue Mo“, English works such as “Desert Rites“, “Desert Hunters”, and “White Tiger Pass” translated by renowned American translators and sinologists Howard Goldblatt and Sylvia Li-chun Lin have also been included in the museum’s collection.

Among them, “Selected Stories By Xue Mo” has been translated into more than 20 languages, and it is also the most translated work so far. This book consists of four novels: “Old Man Xinjiang“, “Yue’er“, “The Sound of Broadbeans Late at Night”, and “The Dholes“. It is a collection of short stories created by writer Xue Mo based entirely on the western land. It’s about love, about family, about survival. When the protagonists face the torture of life, how do they maintain their living dignity and calmly accept everything that fate brings. These seemingly mundane Western stories carry the humanistic spirit that is most needed in this era. Good Western literature not only belongs to the West, but also to the whole world. This is also the meaning of translating good books into multiple languages.

As mentioned in the motto of Australian Polytechnic University, ‘Integration of East and West’. The integration of China and the West is not only the integration of knowledge and technology, but also the integration of humanistic spirit and love. In addition to providing the collection and academic research of the library of Macau Polytechnic University, the donation of Xue Mo’s works to the library of Macau Polytechnic University also includes heartfelt blessings for the students. May knowledge, skills, and love become a pair of wings for them to fly, to travel far away and realize their dreams.
